The Barrier [Re]Set Guide

A barrier-first guide to calmer, stronger skin

If your skin feels dry, tight, reactive, red, dull, flaky, or easily overwhelmed, the issue may not be that you have not found the right product yet. It may be that your skin barrier needs support first.

Over the last decade, skincare has become increasingly focused on treating concerns. Hyperpigmentation. Fine lines. Redness. Breakouts. Dryness.

Yet many people find themselves trapped in the same cycle: adding more products, seeing less consistency, and feeling increasingly unsure of what their skin actually needs.

At TSOS™, we believe healthy-looking skin begins with a healthy skin barrier.

This guide was created to help you understand what the skin barrier is, why it matters, and how supporting it may help improve the appearance of dryness, sensitivity, redness, dullness, uneven tone, and visible signs of aging.

A Note From Our Founder

As a Professional Chemist, I've spent more than a decade formulating skincare and studying the ingredients that influence skin health.

One observation has remained remarkably consistent.

When the skin barrier is compromised, even the most thoughtfully formulated skincare regimen can struggle to perform as intended.

  • Hydration does not seem to last.
  • Skin becomes increasingly reactive.
  • Products that once felt comfortable suddenly feel irritating.

And many people respond by adding more products, when what their skin may need first is support.

That observation became the foundation of TSOS™.

Every formula we create is designed to support the skin barrier while helping address visible skin concerns with intention.

What Is The Skin Barrier?

Your skin barrier is your skin's protective outer layer.

Scientifically known as the stratum corneum, it functions as the interface between your body and the outside world.

Think of it as your skin's natural shield.

A healthy skin barrier helps:

✓ Retain moisture
✓ Reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL)
✓ Protect against environmental stressors
✓ Support skin comfort
✓ Improve resilience
✓ Maintain smooth, healthy-looking skin

Research has consistently shown that barrier dysfunction is associated with increased water loss, irritation, inflammation, and skin sensitivity.

When the barrier becomes compromised, skin often becomes less comfortable, less predictable, and more reactive.

Why this matters

Your skin barrier influences nearly every aspect of how your skin looks and feels.

When functioning properly, it helps maintain hydration and supports skin's natural ability to tolerate environmental stressors and skincare ingredients.

When impaired, skin often struggles to retain moisture and may become more prone to dryness, irritation, and sensitivity.

Signs Your Skin Barrier May Need Support

Barrier dysfunction does not always look the same. For some people, it appears as dryness.

For others, redness, sensitivity, dullness, irritation, or persistent discomfort. Common signs include:

Reactive, Red & Irritated

Skin feels sensitive after cleansing, or stings and burns.

Dehydrated & Tight

Tight after cleansing, or dry shortly after moisturizing

Rough & Flaky Texture

Rough or flaky

Dull or Uneven Looking

Dull, tired, or uneven

Fine Lines more noticeable

More fine-lined when dry

Stuck in a Cycle

Trying products that do not seem to work

The Cycle

Why your skincare may not be working

Compromised barrier → moisture loss → irritation/reactivity → more products → more irritation → regimen confusion

When the skin barrier is disrupted, skin becomes less able to hold onto water and more vulnerable to irritation. That can make everything feel harder.

  • Hydrating products may not last.
  • Brightening products may feel irritating.
  • Actives may seem too strong.

The problem may be the condition of your skin barrier.

Your Barrier Reset

What to Do for the Next Two Weeks

When skin feels dry, tight, reactive, flaky, or difficult to understand, the instinct is often to add another product.

For the next two weeks, do the opposite.

A barrier reset is an opportunity to simplify your routine, reduce unnecessary irritation, and focus on the conditions that help skin feel more hydrated, comfortable, and supported.

The TSOS™ approach

Many skincare regimens start with the concern. Dark spots. Wrinkles. Redness. Dryness. Dullness.

At TSOS™, we begin with the condition of the skin itself.

Because skin that is hydrated and supported is often better able to tolerate a consistent skincare routine.

This philosophy led us to create a complete barrier-first skincare system designed around three principles.

Hydrate

Healthy skin requires water.

Every TSOS™ formula is designed to support hydration and improve skin comfort.

Support

A supported barrier is better able to retain moisture and resist environmental stressors.

Barrier support is built into every formula we create.

Target

Once the skin is supported, targeted ingredients can be introduced to address concerns such as hyperpigmentation, visible aging and dullness.

Meet Triome™

The ecosystems of our Pacific Northwest survive the very climates and conditions that can disrupt our skin barriers. So, we studied their synergies and replicated their biologies in Triome™.

Our proprietary blend and the foundation of every TSOS™ formula, Triome™ helps to calm inflammation and restores moisture in the skin, supporting barrier repair and sensitive, reactive skin.

Six formulas. Two simple routines.

Listen to Your Skin

Your skin may not need the same level of moisture every day.

The Barrier [Re]Set is designed to help you experience the complete TSOS™ system while discovering the textures and combinations your skin responds to best.

What to Expect

Month 1

We use clinically proven ingredients—for some, results may begin in as little as two weeks: Less dryness and irritation, more hydration and comfort. Customers call it The TSOS™ Glow.

What to Expect

Month 2

Ceramides are replenishing the skin barrier: Dullness brightens, hyperpigmentation lightens, fine lines and wrinkles soften. You look refreshed—your skin is getting stronger by the week.

What to Expect

Month 3+

You start to see the benefits of our anti-aging peptides: Age spots and wrinkles look less noticeable, and you look more revitalized. Skin is becoming less reactive and more resilient.

The simplest way to start

If your skin feels reactive, dry, dehydrated, dull, sensitive, or difficult to understand, the hardest part is often knowing where to begin.

That is exactly why we created The Barrier [Re]Set.
